Focus on BÜRKERT Level Measurement

Valves Online are one of the largest online companies offering entire solutions to all your valve application needs. As an official distributor of the German manufacturer ‘Bürkert’ we can offer their enormous range of flow, level, pressure and temperature controllers/transmitters

Following our last email on flow metering devices, we would now like to talk about BÜRKERT Level measurement.

Radar Level Transmitter

Radar Level Transmitter

Radar Level Transmitters

  • Media-independent due to non-contact level measurement
  • Precise measurement even under vacuum and extreme air flows
  • Suitable for high temperatures (up to 200°C) & pressures (up to 40 bar)

Radar level transmitters work based on the time of flight (TOF) measuring principle or time domain reflectometry (TDR). Measure the distance from the reference point to surface of a liquid. Then the meter sends a high-frequency signal from an antenna or along a probe.

Radar level measurement is a safe solution even under extreme process conditions (pressure, temperature) and vapors. Radar level transmitters can also be used in hygienic applications for non-contact level measurement. Radar level transmitters versions are available for different industries like for water/wastewater, the food industry, life sciences or the process industry.

Guided Radar

Guided Radar

Guided Radars

  • Precise level measurement up to 75 meters
  • Fast commissioning due to pre-configured probe lengths
  • Liquid interface measurement possible even with density fluctuations

Guided wave radar is based on microwave technology. Microwaves are only affected by materials that reflect energy which means that temperature variations, dust, pressure, and viscosity do not affect accuracy.

The device sends a low energy microwave pulse down a probe. When the pulse hits the media, a significant proportion of the energy is reflected back up the probe to the device. The level is directly proportional to the time-domain reflectometry. Because a proportion of the emitted pulse will continue down the probe, an interface can also be detected.

Ultrasonic Level Sensor

Ultrasonic Level Sensor

Ultrasonic Level Sensor

  • Media-independent due to non-contact level measurement
  • Wear and maintenance-free use
  • Easy installation on tanks

Ultrasonic level sensors work by the "time of flight" principle using the speed of sound. The sensor emits a high-frequency pulse, generally in the 20 kHz to 200 kHz range, and then listens for the echo. The pulse is transmitted in a cone, usually about 6° at the apex. The pulse impacts the level surface and is reflected back to the sensor, now acting as a receiver, and then to the transmitter for signal processing.

Tuning Fork

Tuning Fork

Tuning Forks

  • Ideal for liquid level measurement
  • Suitable for the most difficult measuring conditions
  • Fast commissioning

tuning fork level switch is suitable level control switch for liquids, sludges, petroleums as well solid level detection of almost any granular, sandy, chip like, powdery, low bulk density materials.

The working principle is based on the changes of vibration frequency of the tuning fork when it comes into contact with a liquid or solid material.

When the fork comes in contact with material the vibration is weakened/dampened and results in frequency change which triggers the switch.

Float Switch

Float Switch

Float Switch

  • Tolerant against dirt particles within the medium
  • Various mounting positions possible
  • Wide range of applications, such as aggressive liquids

A float switch opens or closes a circuit as the level of a liquid rises or falls. Most float switches are “normally closed,” meaning the two wires coming from the top of the switch complete a circuit when the float is at its low point, resting on its bottom clip (for example, when a tank is dry).
